Make your Mark for the WW1 Centenary

Inspiring Purpose – Between the Generations invites you to ‘Make your Mark’ on the Centenary of the First World War. Thousands of men and women gave their all and made the ultimate sacrifice to make their mark. Now it is time for you to make yours by completing our fantastic inter-generational poster project.

It is a poster project for young people to complete at home with a grandparent, relative or family friend from a different generation. Through this partnership, both participants have the opportunity to reflect on important events of the past and share a brighter vision for the future. Completing the poster with someone from an older generation will help you learn about the heroic stories of those who fought and suffered, and of course, those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

By taking part you will learn about the character virtues of courage, respect and compassion. By choosing a poem, an inspiring quote, and a photo or painting to write about, you will complete your own truly unique poster project, and, in turn, make your mark as many others have, past and present. Anyone under the age of 16 can take part in our project and all you need is a copy of the between the generations poster (or electronic version) and someone from another generation to complete it with.

So stamp your mark on the First World War. Apply now and start the journey, to make your mark on the Centenary.

“The importance of the programme cannot be underestimated in our current climate with all the conflicting pressures and influences at work on the youth of today. At the heart of the values and poster programme is the encouraging and nurturing of our young people to be the best that they can be and to recognise that they themselves have the key to being the change they want to see in the world.”

Carol Gollop, (Teacher) Inverurie Academy

Inspiring Purpose: Between the Generations enables young people to explore the history and events of the First World War, as well as the character strengths and values required to get through this tough time, through discussions and working together with a partner from a different generation.  This project creates a bond and relationship ‘between the generations’ and brings everyone together. The programme is ideal for young people under the age of 16 but must be completed with a partner from an older generation.

The official deadline for entries for the project is 31st August 2018. After which the entries will go through a judging process and all participants will be in with the chance of winning a prestigious award and a special centenary medal. The winners will be invited to attend an awards event at Edinburgh Castle in November around the day of remembrance which will mark the Centenary of the First World War.
